Cavaler vestit
Și vesel gătit
Pe drum a apucat-o,
Prin umbră și prin soare,
Cântând cântări ușoare,
Să caute-Eldorado.

Însă-mbătrâni
Cavalerul și
În piept i s-a prelins
O umbră, fiindcă el
Nu a găsit defel
Acel tărâm de vis.

Iar apoi pierzând
Puteri și avânt,
Pe-o umbră-a întrebat-o:
,,Umbră, spune-mi, tu știi
Unde-aș putea găsi
Pământul Eldorado?’’

,,După ce străbați
Munții lunii-înalți,
Tu Valea Umbrei caut-o;
Întins să călărești,
De vrei să poposești
În țara Eldorado!’’

Gaily bedight
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song
In search of Eldorado

But he grew old,
This knight so bold,
And over his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado

And, as his strength
Failed him length,
He met a piligrim shadow,
,,Shadow’’, said he,
,,Where can it be
This land of Eldorado?’’

,,Over the mountain
Of the moun,
Down the walley of the shadow,
Ride, boldly ride’’,
The shadow replied, –
,,If you seek for Eldorado!’’
