Avigdor Arikha s-a născut în România în anul 1929. Primele desene le face în fragedă copilărie.
La numai 12 ani este deportat de naziști într-un lagăr german de concentrare,unde se află pî nă la eliberare în martie 1944, de acolo este trimes în Israel la kibuțul Maale Hamisha în vecinătatea Ierusalimului.
Este grav rănit în războiul de independență al Israelului (ianuarie 1948). Intre 46-49 studiază artele plastice
la academia Bezalel din Ierusalim apoi se înscrie la Paris la prestigioasa Ecole des Beaux Arts, absolvind-o în anul 1951.

He explains that if abstraction is the very essence of our art, he would rather respect it, in order to maintain a better, uncompromising, relationship. It is also clear that he must make his way beyond architecture, remove himself from it, set it aside.
